Job Description
We are seeking a proactive and reliable Waste Services Assistant to join our dedicated team at the Council Depot in Launceston. This full-time, on-site role is vital to the efficient operation of our waste management services, contributing directly to the cleanliness and environmental health of our community. The successful candidate will assist with various tasks related to waste collection, sorting, and disposal, as well as general depot maintenance. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic individual looking to contribute to public services, with full training provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting with the sorting and segregation of various waste materials at the depot.
- Operating basic waste handling equipment under supervision (e.g., forklift, compactors, after training).
- Loading and unloading waste containers and vehicles.
- Performing general cleaning and maintenance duties within the depot area.
- Ensuring compliance with all safety procedures and environmental regulations.
- Reporting any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards.
- Providing support to other team members as required.
- Participating in training programs to enhance skills and knowledge in waste management.

- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively in a team.

- Physical fitness and ability to perform manual handling tasks.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a physical labour role or depot environment (not mandatory, but beneficial).
- Current C-class driver's license.
- Forklift license (LF) or willingness to obtain one after employment.
- Understanding of basic waste segregation principles.
