Job Description

We are seeking a proactive and passionate Community Development Officer to join our vibrant team, focusing on local council projects within the City of Greater Geelong. In this role, you will be instrumental in identifying community needs, developing and implementing targeted programs, and fostering strong relationships with local groups and stakeholders. You will contribute to projects that enhance social cohesion, promote well-being, and support the diverse communities across our municipality. This position requires excellent communication skills, a strong understanding of community development principles, and the ability to work effectively on multiple projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify community needs and opportunities through research, consultation, and engagement activities.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate community development projects and programs in line with council strategies.
  • Facilitate partnerships and collaborations with community groups, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare project proposals, reports, and funding applications.
  • Manage project budgets and resources effectively.
  • Organise and facilitate community meetings, workshops, and events.
  • Provide advice and support to community groups on governance, funding, and project management.
  • Monitor and report on project progress and outcomes.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in community development or related fields.
  • Strong project management and organisational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to engage effectively with diverse community groups.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Valid Australian Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree or diploma in Community Development, Social Sciences, Public Policy, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working within a local government environment.
  • Knowledge of the Geelong region and its diverse communities.
