Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and meticulous Content Editor to join our dynamic publishing team. This is a 100% remote position, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere. As a Content Editor, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality, accuracy, and engaging nature of our published works across various genres. You will be responsible for the full editorial cycle, from manuscript review to final proofreading, collaborating closely with authors, designers, and production teams to bring exceptional books to life.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive structural and line edits on manuscripts, ensuring clarity, consistency, and adherence to house style guides.
- Fact-check and verify information, ensuring accuracy and reliability of content.
- Collaborate with authors to refine their work, providing constructive feedback and guidance.
- Manage the editorial workflow for assigned projects, meeting deadlines and maintaining high standards.
- Liaise with proofreaders, indexers, and designers to ensure a smooth production process.
- Write compelling back cover copy, author bios, and other promotional materials as needed.
- Stay updated with industry trends and best practices in editing and publishing.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience as a Content Editor, Copy Editor, or similar role within a publishing house.
- Exceptional command of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Proven ability to perform structural, stylistic, and line editing.
- Proficiency with style guides (e.g., Chicago Manual of Style, Oxford Style Manual).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective author collaboration.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
- Experience with digital publishing platforms and content management systems.
- Familiarity with various genres of publishing (e.g., fiction, non-fiction, academic).
