Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Agronomist / Crop Scientist to join our dynamic team in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This role is pivotal in providing expert agricultural advice, conducting field research, and developing innovative crop management strategies to support our growers. The successful candidate will be instrumental in optimizing crop yields, ensuring sustainable practices, and driving agricultural innovation. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field visits and assessments to diagnose crop health issues, pest infestations, and nutrient deficiencies.
- Develop and implement integrated crop management plans tailored to specific regional conditions and grower needs.
- Perform soil sampling and analysis, interpreting results to provide informed recommendations for fertilization and soil amendments.
- Design and execute field trials for new crop varieties, fertilizers, and crop protection products, collecting and analyzing data.
- Provide technical support and training to growers on best agricultural practices, product application, and new technologies.
- Stay current with industry trends, research, and regulatory changes in agronomy and crop science.
- Collaborate with sales teams to promote company products and services through technical expertise.
- Prepare comprehensive reports on field observations, trial results, and recommendations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and environmental regulations during field operations.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Plant Science, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in an agronomy or crop science role.
- Strong understanding of crop physiology, soil science, pest management, and nutrient management.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in various field conditions.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively within the region.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or Ph.D. in Agronomy or a closely related field.
- Certified Crop Adviser (CCA) designation or willingness to obtain.
- Experience with precision agriculture technologies (e.g., GIS, remote sensing, variable rate application).
- Familiarity with agricultural practices specific to the Atlantic Canada region.
- Experience working with diverse crop types.
