Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Literary Agency Intern to join our team in San Jose. This internship offers an invaluable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the fast-paced world of literary agenting. The primary focus of this role will be on manuscript review, providing critical support in our submission evaluation process. You will learn the intricacies of literary market trends, editorial feedback, and author representation, contributing directly to the discovery of future bestsellers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read and evaluate unsolicited manuscripts, query letters, and synopses with a critical eye.
  • Write concise and objective reader's reports, summarizing plot, character, and market potential.
  • Provide administrative support for agenting tasks, including correspondence and scheduling.
  • Assist with database management and organization of submission materials.
  • Research current literary trends, publishing houses, and comparable titles.
  • Participate in agency meetings and contribute to brainstorming sessions.
  • Learn about contract negotiation and intellectual property rights.

  • Basic knowledge of publishing industry terms and processes.
