Job Description

Are you passionate about helping others and eager to start a rewarding career in healthcare? Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a motivated Trainee Occupational Therapy Aide to join our Public Healthcare team in Sydney, Nova Scotia. This is an entry-level position where no prior experience is required, as comprehensive training will be provided to ensure your success. You will work under the direct supervision of licensed Occupational Therapists, assisting with patient care, preparing equipment, and maintaining a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Occupational Therapists in implementing treatment plans for patients.
  • Prepare treatment areas, equipment, and materials before and after patient sessions.
  • Help patients with exercises and activities as instructed by the Occupational Therapist.
  • Monitor patients during therapy sessions and report observations to the supervising therapist.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the therapy department.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling, documentation, and supply management.
  • Ensure patient comfort and safety at all times.
  • Support patients and their families with compassion and respect.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively in a team.
  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to help others.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Physical ability to assist patients with mobility and handle equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous volunteer experience in a healthcare or community setting.
  • Completion of a First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology (asset, but not required).
