Job Description

We are seeking a highly organised and dedicated individual to join our team as Antarctic Division Support. This unique federal role provides essential administrative and logistical support to the British Antarctic Survey’s critical operations, helping to facilitate ground-breaking research in one of the world’s most challenging environments. Based in our Crawley hub, you will play a pivotal part in ensuring our Antarctic expeditions and research programmes run smoothly, contributing directly to UK’s scientific leadership in polar research. This is an on-site position where your contribution will directly impact the success of our global scientific mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive administrative support to various departments within the Antarctic Division, including scheduling, correspondence, and record keeping.
  • Assist with the coordination of logistics for personnel and equipment travelling to and from the Antarctic region.
  • Manage and maintain accurate databases related to project progress, inventory, and personnel information.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and other documents as required by senior management and scientific teams.
  • Act as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding Antarctic division queries.
  • Support the procurement process for goods and services essential for Antarctic operations.
  • Facilitate internal communication and collaboration across different project teams.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Problem-solving aptitude and ability to adapt to changing priorities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a federal or government support role
  • Familiarity with logistics or expedition planning
  • Experience with database management systems
  • An interest in polar science or environmental research
