Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Automotive Design Intern to join our Vehicle Dynamics team in Portland, OR. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the design and engineering of heavy-duty trucks, focusing specifically on vehicle dynamics. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced engineers and designers, contributing to projects that enhance vehicle stability, handling, and ride comfort. This role is ideal for students passionate about automotive engineering, eager to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world challenges, and contribute to the development of cutting-edge commercial vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist vehicle dynamics engineers with data collection, analysis, and interpretation from simulations and physical tests.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of vehicle dynamic models using specialized software.
- Support the design and modification of vehicle components impacting dynamics, such as suspension systems, steering, and braking.
- Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations summarizing project findings and recommendations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, testing, and manufacturing.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for innovative solutions to complex engineering problems.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of fundamental vehicle dynamics principles.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous academic project experience related to vehicle dynamics or automotive design.
- Familiarity with simulation software such as MATLAB/Simulink, Adams Car, or similar tools.
- Basic understanding of programming languages (e.g., Python, C++).
- GPA of 3.0 or higher.
