Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and creative Calligraphy & Letterpress Intern to join our vibrant team. This entry-level internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the intricate world of traditional printing and elegant script. You will work alongside experienced artisans, learning the fundamentals of letterpress operation, ink mixing, paper selection, and various calligraphy styles. This role is perfect for someone passionate about design, fine art, and the tactile beauty of handcrafted goods, with a keen eye for detail and a desire to learn from the ground up. Full training will be provided, making this an ideal stepping stone for aspiring artists and designers.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the setup and operation of letterpress machines for various print projects.
- Learn and practice different calligraphy styles for client mock-ups and production.
- Prepare paper stocks, mix custom ink colors, and maintain studio cleanliness.
- Support the design team with project research, material sourcing, and organization.
- Assist with finishing processes such as trimming, binding, and packaging.
- Document processes and projects for studio archives and social media content.
- Shadow client consultations to understand project briefs and design workflows.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong interest in art, design, printing, or typography.
- Excellent attention to detail and a steady hand.
- Eagerness to learn new skills and techniques.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously.
- Reliable, punctual, and a positive attitude.
- Basic computer literacy (email, word processing).
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant program (e.g., Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Liberal Arts).
- Prior experience with any art form (drawing, painting, photography, etc.).
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign) is a plus, but not required.
- Basic understanding of color theory and composition.
