Job Description
Are you passionate about animals and love sharing stories? Rochester Heritage Carriages is seeking an enthusiastic and animal-loving Carriage / Horse-Drawn Tour Driver to join our team. In this unique tourism role, you will be responsible for safely operating our beautiful horse-drawn carriages, providing engaging and informative tours of Rochester’s historic landmarks, and ensuring the comfort and safety of both our guests and our horses. This is a hands-on position that combines driving skills with customer service and animal care. Full training will be provided for successful candidates, making it an excellent opportunity for those with a strong desire to learn and a genuine love for horses.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate horse-drawn carriages along designated tour routes in Rochester.
- Provide engaging, informative, and entertaining narratives about Rochester's history and points of interest to tour guests.
- Ensure the comfort and safety of all passengers during tours.
- Assist with the daily care and preparation of horses, including grooming, harnessing, and feeding.
- Maintain the cleanliness and presentation of carriages and equipment.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of horses and carriages.
- Handle bookings and guest inquiries professionally and courteously.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies regarding horse care and public tours.
- Represent Rochester Heritage Carriages with a friendly and professional demeanor.
Required Skills
- Genuine love and respect for animals, especially horses.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong customer service orientation and a friendly disposition.
- Ability to learn and memorize tour routes and historical facts.
- Physical stamina to handle horses and carriage equipment, and to be outdoors for extended periods.
- Valid driver's license (standard vehicle) for commuting and general purposes.
- Willingness to undergo comprehensive training in horse handling and carriage driving.

- Previous experience in tourism, hospitality, or customer service roles.
- Prior experience with large animals or equine care is a plus, but not required.
