Job Description

The Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Child Protection Officers (Trainee) in Tweed Heads. This is an incredible entry-level opportunity to start a rewarding career in child protection, even if you have no prior experience. We provide comprehensive training, mentorship, and ongoing professional development to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to protect vulnerable children and support families in navigating complex challenges. Key Responsibilities
- Participate in a structured training program to develop foundational knowledge and skills in child protection practices.
- Learn to conduct initial assessments of child protection concerns under supervision.
- Assist senior officers in case management, including information gathering and record keeping.
- Develop skills in engaging with children, families, and community stakeholders in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner.
- Understand and apply relevant legislation, policies, and procedures related to child protection.
- Contribute to team meetings and debriefings, reflecting on practice and learning from experiences.
- Maintain accurate and confidential case notes and records.
- Adhere to professional standards of conduct and ethical practice.

- Understanding of child development and family dynamics.
- Knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and communities.
- Experience in customer service or roles requiring interaction with diverse populations.
