Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Clinical Pharmacist to join our dynamic team within the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board. This is an exceptional opportunity for an overseas candidate, as we are proud to offer Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) and comprehensive visa support to eligible applicants. As a Clinical Pharmacist, you will play a crucial role in optimising patient care through expert pharmaceutical knowledge, medication management, and patient education. You will work within a multidisciplinary team, providing expert advice on prescribing, medicines optimisation, and contributing to the safe and effective use of medicines across various clinical settings in Dowlais and the wider Merthyr Tydfil area. Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert clinical pharmacy advice and support to medical, nursing, and other healthcare professionals.
- Undertake medication reviews, ensuring appropriate, safe, and cost-effective prescribing.
- Participate in ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings, contributing to patient care plans.
- Educate patients and carers on medication use, potential side effects, and adherence.
- Monitor drug therapy for efficacy and adverse effects, initiating interventions where necessary.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of medicines optimisation strategies and clinical guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant pharmacy legislation, professional standards, and local policies.
- Support the training and development of junior pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and other healthcare staff.
- Participate in clinical audit, research, and quality improvement projects related to medicines use.
- Act as a point of contact for complex pharmaceutical queries, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Pharmacy (or equivalent recognized qualification)
- Full registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) or eligibility for GPhC registration (support provided for overseas candidates)
- Minimum of 3 years post-registration experience as a Clinical Pharmacist in a hospital or primary care setting
- Excellent understanding of pharmacology, therapeutics, and clinical pharmacy practice
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients and colleagues
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Proficiency in medication review, patient counselling, and drug information provision
- Commitment to continuous professional development
- Right to work in the UK (with CoS/Visa support provided for successful overseas candidates)
Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate Diploma or MSc in Clinical Pharmacy
- Independent Prescribing qualification (or working towards)
- Experience in a specialist clinical area (e.g., cardiology, respiratory, elderly care)
- Familiarity with NHS prescribing systems and formularies
- Experience in clinical audit or research methodologies
