Job Description

Are you an early bird with a keen nose for quality and a desire to work in a vibrant production environment? Island Roast Coffee Co. is seeking a dedicated Production Assistant to join our roastery team in Stratford, PEI. This is an exciting opportunity to learn the intricacies of coffee production, from green bean handling to packaging, ensuring our freshly roasted coffee reaches our customers perfectly. Full training will be provided, but a strong work ethic and attention to detail are a must.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with receiving, sorting, and storing green coffee beans.
  • Support roasters during the roasting process, including loading and unloading beans.
  • Monitor roasting machines and maintain a clean and organized production area.
  • Perform quality checks on roasted coffee, including visual inspection and weighing.
  • Operate packaging equipment to bag and seal roasted coffee products.
  • Prepare orders for shipment, including labeling and palletizing.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records for green and roasted coffee.
  • Adhere to all food safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Participate in general cleaning and maintenance of the roastery facility.

Required Skills

  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs regularly.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely.
  • Reliable and punctual, comfortable with early morning shifts.
  • Basic math and literacy skills for inventory and labeling.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe workspace.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a production, manufacturing, or warehouse environment (6 months+).
  • Familiarity with food safety practices (e.g., HACCP, GMP).
  • Genuine interest in coffee and the coffee industry.
  • Forklift certification (asset, but not required).
