Job Description
Are you looking to kick-start your career in land surveying? WSP is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Land Surveyor Assistant to join our team in Bath. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals eager to learn the fundamentals of surveying and contribute to vital infrastructure and development projects. You will work alongside experienced Surveyors, gaining hands-on experience with cutting-edge equipment and techniques. Full training will be provided, making this an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong work ethic and a desire to develop valuable technical skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior surveyors with daily field operations, including setting up and operating surveying instruments (total stations, GPS, levels).
- Help with the accurate collection of spatial data for various projects, such as topographical surveys, boundary surveys, and construction layouts.
- Maintain and care for surveying equipment, ensuring it is in good working order and calibrated correctly.
- Record field notes, measurements, and other relevant data clearly and accurately.
- Support the processing of survey data under the guidance of experienced professionals.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations and company procedures on site.
- Perform general site duties as required to ensure smooth project execution.
Required Skills
- A strong willingness to learn and develop new technical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Basic mathematical aptitude.
- Physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- A valid UK driving licence (or willingness to obtain one) is highly advantageous for site travel.
Preferred Qualifications
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English at grade C/4 or above.
- Any relevant vocational training or coursework in geography, construction, or engineering is a plus but not essential.
- Previous experience with hand tools or outdoor work.
- Familiarity with basic computer software (e.g., Microsoft Office).
