Job Description

Are you an early riser with a passion for quality coffee and a keen sense of smell? Balzac’s Coffee Roasters is looking for a dedicated Coffee Roastery Production Assistant to join our growing team in Kitchener! This is an entry-level opportunity perfect for someone eager to learn the intricate process of coffee roasting and production from the ground up. You’ll play a vital role in ensuring our beans are perfectly prepared, packaged, and ready to delight our customers. Full training will be provided to the right candidate who demonstrates enthusiasm, reliability, and a strong work ethic.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Roaster in daily production operations, including bean handling, loading, and unloading.
  • Monitor and maintain cleanliness of the roastery equipment and production areas.
  • Perform quality control checks on roasted beans (e.g., visual inspection, aroma assessment).
  • Operate packaging machinery and ensure accurate weighing and sealing of coffee bags.
  • Prepare and organize green coffee for roasting and roasted coffee for packaging.
  • Assist with inventory management, including receiving and storing green beans.
  • Follow all safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Support the roasting team with various tasks as needed to ensure smooth workflow.

Required Skills

  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs regularly.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely.
  • Excellent punctuality and reliability, especially for early morning shifts.
  • Basic understanding of workplace safety practices.
  • A keen sense of smell and genuine interest in coffee.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a production, manufacturing, or warehouse environment is a plus.
  • Experience with food handling or in a food production setting.
  • Forklift certification (training can be provided).
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
