Job Description
As a Public Relations Assistant on the Government Media Team at Bell Canada, you will be instrumental in supporting our communication efforts with various government bodies and public sector organizations. This entry-level position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public relations within a dynamic corporate and regulated environment. You will assist in drafting communications, monitoring media, coordinating events, and managing information flow to ensure clear and consistent messaging that aligns with Bell’s strategic objectives and regulatory compliance. Full training will be provided to help you develop a strong foundation in government relations and corporate communications.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in drafting press releases, media advisories, backgrounders, and other communication materials for government stakeholders.
- Monitor media coverage across traditional and digital platforms, identifying relevant news and trends impacting government relations.
- Help prepare briefing materials and presentations for senior management ahead of government meetings or public appearances.
- Coordinate logistics for media events, press conferences, and stakeholder engagements, both in-person and virtual.
- Maintain and update media lists, contact databases, and communication calendars specific to government initiatives.
- Support the team in research tasks, compiling data, and generating reports on public opinion and policy developments.
- Facilitate internal communication flow, ensuring relevant information is shared across departments as needed.
- Manage administrative tasks as required, including scheduling meetings and managing correspondence.
Required Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French (bilingualism is a strong asset for Montreal).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to conduct thorough research and synthesize information effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- A strong interest in public relations, government affairs, and media relations.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- A proactive attitude and willingness to learn and adapt.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or college diploma in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Political Science, or a related field.
- Previous experience (even volunteer or intern) in an office environment, media monitoring, or event coordination.
- Familiarity with the Canadian media landscape and governmental processes.
- Basic understanding of social media platforms and their role in public relations.
