Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and ambitious Commis Chef to join our dynamic kitchen team at Malmaison Aberdeen. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a keen interest in culinary arts to develop their skills and grow within a high-quality hotel environment. You will work under the guidance of experienced chefs, learning various kitchen stations, food preparation techniques, and maintaining impeccable standards of hygiene and food safety. Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior chefs in the preparation and cooking of various dishes across different kitchen sections.
- Learn and master basic cooking techniques, knife skills, and portion control.
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness, and organization in the kitchen.
- Ensure all food items are stored correctly and rotated to minimise waste.
- Support the Head Chef and Sous Chef with daily tasks and ad-hoc requests.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Contribute to a positive and productive working environment.
Required Skills
- Basic understanding of kitchen operations and culinary terms.
- Ability to work effectively in a team.
- Strong work ethic and a desire to learn and improve.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- A foundational knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a professional kitchen, even casual or part-time.
- NVQ Level 1 or 2 in Professional Cookery, or equivalent culinary qualification.
- Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
