Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Cost Estimator to join our team in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. The successful candidate will be instrumental in preparing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for a variety of construction projects, ensuring competitive bidding and project profitability. This role is crucial for our project planning and execution, involving close collaboration with project managers, engineers, and suppliers. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for various construction projects including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractors.
- Analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates.
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, and engineers to understand project scope and requirements.
- Identify and quantify cost factors, such as production time, materials, and labor expenses.
- Evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure accuracy and competitiveness.
- Maintain accurate records of estimates, bids, and project costs.
- Present cost estimates to management and project teams, clearly articulating assumptions and justifications.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in construction cost estimation.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, ProEst, Sage Estimating).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional certification (e.g., PQS, AACE International).
- Experience with projects in Newfoundland and Labrador.
- Familiarity with local building codes and regulations.
