Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Credit Controller to join our finance team in Portsmouth. In this critical role, you will be responsible for managing and recovering outstanding debts, ensuring timely payments, and maintaining strong client relationships. You will play a vital part in maintaining healthy cash flow and financial stability for our operations. This position requires strong communication skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. You will work closely with various departments to resolve queries and improve collection processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of customer accounts, ensuring timely collection of outstanding debts.
- Communicate effectively with customers via phone, email, and letter to follow up on overdue payments.
- Reconcile customer accounts and resolve payment discrepancies or queries promptly.
- Prepare and issue statements, dunning letters, and other correspondence related to credit control.
- Monitor credit limits and payment terms, escalating issues as necessary.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all collection activities and customer interactions.
- Collaborate with sales, customer service, and other internal teams to resolve billing and payment issues.
- Report on aged debt, collection performance, and potential bad debt provisions.
- Assist in the continuous improvement of credit control processes and procedures.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Credit Controller or in a similar finance role (minimum 2 years).
- Strong understanding of credit control principles and accounting practices.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and MS Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- AAT qualification or equivalent finance qualification.
- Experience working in a large corporate or defence industry environment.
- Knowledge of UK financial regulations and compliance related to credit.
