Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Critical Care Nurse to join our intensive care unit (ICU) team. This role offers the opportunity to provide specialized nursing care to critically ill patients, utilizing advanced monitoring and life-sustaining interventions. You will work within a multidisciplinary team, delivering exceptional care while supporting patients and their families through challenging times. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
  • Monitor and interpret complex physiological data, initiating appropriate interventions and escalating concerns to the medical team.
  • Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately, including advanced pharmacological agents.
  • Manage and operate specialized equipment such as ventilators, cardiac monitors, and renal replacement therapy machines.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, allied health professionals, and other nursing staff to ensure holistic patient care.
  • Educate and support patients and their families, providing clear communication and empathetic guidance.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, adhering to all professional and organizational guidelines.
  • Participate in ward rounds, multidisciplinary team meetings, and contribute to care planning decisions.
  • Act as a mentor and resource for junior staff, promoting a culture of learning and professional growth.
  • Adhere to all infection control policies and safety protocols.

Required Skills

  • Registered Nurse (NMC registration required)
  • Minimum of 2 years post-registration experience in an acute care setting.
  • Demonstrable experience in a critical care or high dependency unit.
  • Proficiency in advanced life support (e.g., ALS, ACLS).
  • Excellent clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Commitment to patient safety and quality care.
  • Proficiency in electronic patient record systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-graduate qualification in Critical Care Nursing or equivalent.
  • Experience with specific critical care technologies (e.g., ECMO, IABP).
  • Leadership or mentorship experience within a nursing team.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development in critical care.
  • Experience in a teaching hospital setting.
