Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Dietary / Meal Prep Kitchen Assistant to join our culinary team in Albuquerque. This is a full-time, entry-level position with daytime hours only, perfect for individuals looking to start a career in food service within a supportive healthcare environment. As a Kitchen Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our patients and staff receive nutritious and delicious meals prepared to the highest standards of safety and quality. Full training will be provided to the right candidate who demonstrates a strong work ethic and a desire to learn.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of various food items according to standardized recipes and dietary guidelines.
- Perform basic food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, chopping fruits and vegetables.
- Portion food items accurately for patient trays and cafeteria service.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen areas, including workstations, equipment, and utensils.
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently after receiving proper training.
- Load and unload dishwashers, and store clean dishes appropriately.
- Stock food supplies and rotate inventory as directed.
- Assist with receiving and storing food deliveries.
- Follow all food safety and hygiene regulations and hospital policies.
- Collaborate effectively with culinary and healthcare team members to ensure smooth service.
- Perform other duties as assigned by kitchen management.
Required Skills
- Ability to read and follow written instructions and recipes.
- Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation principles (or willingness to learn).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 pounds, and perform repetitive tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current New Mexico Food Handler's Card (can be obtained after hire).
- Previous experience in a kitchen or food service setting is a plus, but not required.
