Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Directional Drilling Operator to join our civil construction team in Port Augusta, South Australia. In this role, you will be instrumental in the installation of underground utilities such as water, gas, power, and telecommunications conduits. You will operate state-of-the-art horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment, ensuring precise and efficient drilling operations while adhering to all safety protocols and project specifications. Key Responsibilities
- Operate horizontal directional drilling (HDD) rigs and associated equipment safely and efficiently.
- Perform pre-start checks, maintenance, and minor repairs on drilling equipment.
- Interpret bore plans, utility drawings, and mark-outs.
- Monitor drilling progress, fluid pressure, and bore path via guidance systems.
- Work collaboratively with pipe layers, locators, and other ground crew members.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with company safety policies, industry standards, and environmental regulations.
- Maintain accurate daily logs and operational records.
- Participate in daily toolbox talks and risk assessments.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Directional Drilling Operator (HDD).
- Valid Australian Driver's License (HR or above preferred).
- Construction Induction White Card.
- Strong understanding of underground utility installation practices.
- Ability to read and interpret plans and schematics.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant plant operator tickets (e.g., excavator, skid steer).
- First Aid Certificate.
- Confined Space and Working at Heights training.
- Experience with various soil conditions and drilling techniques.
