Job Description

Plymouth College is seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic Drama Teacher to join our thriving Arts department. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate educator to inspire students across various age groups, from Key Stage 3 to A-Level, in all aspects of drama and performance. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing students’ creative expression, critical thinking, and collaborative skills through a diverse range of theatrical practices. You will be expected to contribute to the school’s vibrant extra-curricular programme, directing school plays and productions, and fostering a love for the performing arts within the college community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and innovative drama lessons to students across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
  • Assess, monitor, and report on student progress, providing constructive feedback to support their development.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the drama curriculum.
  • Direct and oversee school productions, plays, and performances, ensuring high standards of execution.
  • Organise and lead drama clubs, workshops, and trips to professional theatre productions.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the Arts department and across the school to promote interdisciplinary learning.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel confident to explore their creativity.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, parents' evenings, and other school events as required.

Required Skills

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognized teaching qualification.
  • Proven experience teaching Drama across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
  • Excellent knowledge of various dramatic theories, practitioners, and theatrical styles.
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to inspire and motivate students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to direct and produce high-quality school performances.
  • A passion for drama and a commitment to fostering creativity in young people.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Drama, Theatre Studies, or a related field.
  • Experience with a variety of examination boards (e.g., AQA, Edexcel) for Drama at GCSE and A-Level.
  • Experience incorporating digital technologies into drama education.
  • First Aid qualification.
