Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Electrical Engineering Intern with a focus on Power Systems to join our team in Kalgoorlie. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the planning, design, operation, and maintenance of regional power networks. You will work alongside experienced engineers, contributing to real-world projects that impact remote communities across Western Australia. This role is designed for students eager to learn, apply theoretical knowledge, and develop practical skills in a supportive environment, even if you have no prior professional experience. Full training and mentorship will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior engineers in the analysis and design of power distribution systems.
- Support the development and implementation of renewable energy projects and microgrids.
- Collect and analyze data related to grid performance, stability, and reliability.
- Contribute to the documentation of engineering designs, reports, and technical specifications.
- Participate in site visits to observe equipment, network infrastructure, and operational procedures.
- Learn to use industry-standard software for power system modeling and simulation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project success and operational excellence.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in an Electrical Engineering degree program (or similar field).
- Fundamental understanding of electrical circuits, power generation, transmission, and distribution principles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Eagerness to learn and a proactive attitude.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completed coursework in Power Systems, Renewable Energy, or Control Systems.
- Basic familiarity with CAD software or simulation tools (e.g., PSCAD, ETAP, PowerFactory).
- Previous experience with data analysis or scientific computing tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python).
