Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and meticulous Environmental Auditor with a strong focus on compliance to join our dynamic team in Gungahlin. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive environmental audits, ensuring adherence to regulatory frameworks, and providing expert advice on environmental compliance to a diverse range of clients. This position requires a keen eye for detail, a solid understanding of environmental legislation, and excellent communication skills to articulate findings and recommendations effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive environmental audits of client operations, facilities, and projects, ensuring compliance with local, national, and international environmental legislation and standards.
  • Prepare detailed audit reports, identifying non-conformities, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and recommend practical corrective actions and preventative measures to enhance environmental performance.
  • Liaise with clients, regulatory bodies, and internal teams to facilitate audit processes and communicate findings effectively.
  • Stay abreast of changes in environmental legislation, best practices, and industry trends, integrating new knowledge into auditing methodologies.
  • Provide expert advice and support on environmental compliance matters to various stakeholders.
  • Participate in the development and enhancement of GHD's auditing methodologies and tools to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Undertake site visits and field assessments as required to gather necessary audit evidence.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in environmental auditing, environmental consulting, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of Australian environmental legislation (e.g., EPBC Act, state-specific acts) and regulatory frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct audits, collect evidence, and prepare professional reports.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • A relevant Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Valid Australian Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Lead Environmental Auditor qualification (e.g., RABQSA or equivalent).
  • Experience with specific environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field.
  • Experience in diverse industry sectors (e.g., infrastructure, manufacturing, mining, government).
