Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Environmental Impact Research Assistant to join our team in Lethbridge, Alberta. This role involves a blend of office-based research, data analysis, and field work to support environmental impact assessments and monitoring programs. The successful candidate will contribute to various projects aimed at understanding, managing, and reducing the environmental footprint of ATCO’s operations. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual passionate about environmental conservation and sustainable development to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field data collection, including water quality sampling, vegetation surveys, wildlife observations, and soil analysis, following established protocols.
  • Assist in the preparation of environmental reports, technical documents, and permit applications.
  • Perform literature reviews and synthesize information on environmental regulations, best practices, and scientific research.
  • Manage and organize environmental data using databases and GIS software.
  • Support senior environmental specialists in conducting impact assessments and developing mitigation strategies.
  • Operate and maintain field equipment safely and effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders on environmental projects.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in various environments (office and field).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Physical fitness suitable for outdoor field work in varying weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Geography, or a related discipline.
  • Prior experience with field data collection methodologies and equipment.
  • Familiarity with environmental legislation and regulations in Alberta.
  • Basic knowledge of GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS).
  • Experience with data analysis and statistical software.
