Job Description
Are you passionate about the environment and eager to start a career in ecological field work? WSP UK is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our environmental team as an Environmental Sampling Assistant. This is an entry-level position perfect for someone with little to no prior experience, as comprehensive training will be provided. You will be instrumental in collecting vital environmental data, primarily in outdoor settings across Norfolk and surrounding areas. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in environmental monitoring, learn industry-standard sampling techniques, and contribute to meaningful environmental projects that impact our local communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior environmental scientists and technicians with various field sampling activities, including soil, water, air, and ecological surveys.
- Operate and maintain field equipment under supervision.
- Accurately record field data, observations, and sample information.
- Prepare samples for laboratory analysis and ensure proper chain-of-custody procedures.
- Adhere strictly to health and safety protocols and environmental regulations.
- Transport equipment and samples to and from various field sites.
- Assist with equipment calibration, cleaning, and inventory.
- Contribute to basic data entry and report preparation as required.
Required Skills
- Strong work ethic and a proactive attitude.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data recording.
- Physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrains.
- Valid UK driving license and willingness to travel to field sites.
- Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite).
- Enthusiasm for environmental protection and learning new skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- A-levels or equivalent in a science-related subject.
- Some basic knowledge of environmental issues or ecology (e.g., from personal interest or volunteer work).
- First Aid certification.
- Experience with manual labor or outdoor work.
