Job Description

TerraNova Environmental Solutions Inc. is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Environmental Sampling Assistant to join our field team in Fogo, Newfoundland. This is an entry-level position perfect for individuals with no prior experience in environmental work. We are committed to providing comprehensive, on-the-job training to ensure you gain the skills and knowledge needed to excel in this vital role. You will play a crucial part in collecting essential environmental data that informs our projects and helps protect the unique ecosystems of Fogo Island and surrounding areas. This role requires a willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and a strong commitment to safety and accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior environmental technicians with the collection of various environmental samples (e.g., soil, water, air, biological).
- Accurately record field data, observations, and measurements using provided tools and forms.
- Ensure proper handling, labeling, and transportation of samples to maintain integrity.
- Participate in the calibration and basic maintenance of field sampling equipment.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety protocols, company policies, and environmental regulations.
- Assist with the preparation of field equipment and supplies for upcoming projects.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding field conditions and data collection progress.
Required Skills
- No prior experience in environmental sampling is required; full training will be provided.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license (or equivalent) with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in various weather conditions.
- Physical fitness to perform duties such as lifting, carrying equipment, and walking over uneven terrain.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in data recording.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Basic computer proficiency for data entry and reporting.
- Genuine interest in environmental science, conservation, or outdoor work.
