Job Description
We are seeking a talented and motivated Firmware / Embedded Systems Engineer to join our cutting-edge R&D team in Canterbury, Kent. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the design, development, and testing of complex embedded systems for critical defence applications. You will work on the full lifecycle of product development, from concept generation to final deployment, ensuring high-quality and robust solutions. Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and test firmware for embedded systems, including microcontrollers, DSPs, and FPGAs.
- Implement real-time operating systems (RTOS) and bare-metal solutions.
- Debug and troubleshoot hardware/firmware issues using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and debuggers.
- Develop and maintain documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and user manuals.
- Collaborate with hardware engineers, software engineers, and project managers throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Participate in design reviews and code reviews to ensure quality and adherence to standards.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of development processes and tools.
- Ensure compliance with safety, security, and quality standards pertinent to defence applications.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems development.
- Experience with various communication protocols (e.g., I2C, SPI, UART, Ethernet, CAN).
- Understanding of microcontroller architectures (e.g., ARM Cortex-M/R/A).
- Familiarity with debugging tools and techniques for embedded systems.
- Knowledge of real-time operating systems (RTOS) concepts.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience with FPGA design using VHDL/Verilog.
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Familiarity with defence industry standards and practices.
- Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python) for test automation.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles for embedded systems.
