Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and physically capable Fish Market Ice Shoveler to join our seafood department team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for maintaining the freshness and pristine appearance of our seafood displays by continuously replenishing and shaping ice. This is a hands-on, physically demanding position in a cold, wet environment, ensuring our products meet the highest standards for our customers. Full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily shoveling, chipping, and distribution of ice to maintain optimal temperatures and aesthetic appeal of seafood displays.
- Monitoring ice levels throughout the day and proactively replenishing as needed.
- Ensuring all seafood products are properly bedded in ice to preserve freshness and presentation.
- Assisting with the initial setup and breakdown of seafood display cases.
- Maintaining a clean and organized work area, including proper disposal of excess water and ice.
- Adhering strictly to all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene guidelines.
- Operating and maintaining ice machines safely and efficiently.
- Communicating any equipment malfunctions or product quality concerns to management.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including repetitive lifting (up to 50 lbs), bending, standing, and shoveling for extended periods.
- Comfort working in a cold, wet, and fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation.
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- No prior experience required; comprehensive training will be provided.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a retail, grocery, or food service environment.
- Basic understanding of seafood handling or food safety practices.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
