Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Flavor Science Intern to join our dynamic Research & Development team in Orlando, FL. This internship offers a unique opportunity for aspiring food scientists and chemists to gain hands-on experience in the exciting world of flavor creation and application within the food and beverage industry. Under the guidance of experienced flavorists and scientists, you will contribute to various projects aimed at developing new flavor solutions, optimizing existing ones, and conducting analytical evaluations. This role is ideal for students looking to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical, fast-paced industrial setting and learn about the intricate science behind the flavors we all enjoy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior flavorists and scientists in the development and application of new flavor prototypes for various food and beverage categories.
  • Prepare samples for sensory evaluation and analytical testing, ensuring accuracy and adherence to protocols.
  • Conduct basic laboratory tests, including pH measurements, Brix readings, and density checks, and record data meticulously.
  • Support the sensory panel process by preparing samples, maintaining sensory booths, and assisting with data collection.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring cleanliness and proper functioning.
  • Research and compile information on flavor raw materials, industry trends, and scientific literature.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and organized laboratory environment.
  • Present findings and project updates to the team as required.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Food Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
  • Basic understanding of laboratory safety procedures and good laboratory practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Eagerness to learn and a genuine interest in flavor science and the food industry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior academic or personal project experience involving laboratory work, especially in food science or chemistry.
  • Familiarity with basic analytical techniques (e.g., spectrophotometry, chromatography) is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of sensory evaluation principles.
  • Availability to commit to the full duration of the internship (typically 10-12 weeks during summer).
