Job Description

Ryder System, Inc. is seeking a dynamic and experienced Fleet Operations Manager to oversee our fleet operations in Scottsdale, AZ. This critical role involves managing daily activities, optimizing fleet utilization, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and leading a team of dedicated professionals. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in fleet management, a strong focus on operational excellence, and the ability to drive continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and optimize the daily operations of a diverse fleet of vehicles.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal transportation regulations and safety standards.
  • Oversee vehicle maintenance schedules, repairs, and procurement processes to maximize uptime and minimize costs.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance service delivery.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of fleet personnel, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and high performance.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), analyze data, and generate reports to track fleet performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Manage departmental budgets, control expenses, and identify opportunities for cost savings.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless integration of fleet operations with overall business objectives.
  • Implement and enforce company policies and procedures related to fleet management and safety.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in fleet management or logistics operations.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management abilities with a focus on employee development.
  • Strong understanding of transportation regulations, safety protocols, and industry best practices.
  • Proficiency in fleet management software, telematics systems, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, capable of interacting with all levels of staff and external partners.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications in fleet management (e.g., Certified Automotive Fleet Manager – CAFM, Certified Transportation Professional – CTP).
  • Experience with advanced GPS tracking systems and predictive maintenance technologies.
  • In-depth knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance and Hours of Service (HOS) regulations.
  • Experience with budget management and vendor negotiations.
