Job Description
We are seeking a highly responsible and trustworthy individual for the role of Government Archival Transport Driver. This critical position involves the secure and timely transportation of sensitive government archival materials between various state facilities, storage locations, and other designated points across Vermont. The successful candidate will uphold the highest standards of reliability, discretion, and professionalism, ensuring the integrity and security of all transported records. A pristine driving record is essential for this role, as you will be entrusted with irreplaceable historical and administrative documents.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently transport government archival materials, including documents, records, and artifacts, between specified locations across Vermont.
- Adhere to strict security protocols, chain-of-custody procedures, and confidentiality guidelines for all transported items.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the transport vehicle (vans, light trucks) and promptly report any maintenance issues or damage.
- Maintain accurate logs of deliveries, mileage, fuel consumption, and vehicle maintenance records.
- Assist with the careful loading and unloading of archival boxes, containers, and other materials, utilizing appropriate handling techniques and equipment.
- Plan and follow optimal routes to ensure timely and secure deliveries, adapting to traffic and weather conditions as necessary.
- Represent the Vermont State Archives and Records Administration professionally and courteously in all interactions with staff at various locations.
- Ensure the transport vehicle is kept clean, organized, and in good working order at all times.
Required Skills
- Valid Class D (or equivalent) driver's license with an impeccable driving record, free of major violations or accidents for at least the past five years.
- Proven ability to demonstrate high levels of reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Physical capability to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the day.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to strictly following established security and handling procedures.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle operation, safety checks, and routine maintenance awareness.
- Proficiency in navigating using maps, GPS devices, and understanding of local road networks.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate effectively with team members and receiving personnel.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate.
- At least one year of professional driving, courier, or logistics experience.
- Prior experience in secure document transport or handling sensitive materials.
- Familiarity with the geography and road networks of Vermont.
- Comfortable driving a variety of light commercial vehicles (e.g., cargo vans, box trucks).
