Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and meticulous individual to join our team as a Government Audit Support – Internal Compliance specialist. In this vital role, you will play a key part in supporting our audit engagements, specifically those pertaining to government entities and public sector compliance. Your primary responsibility will be to assist in ensuring our clients’ internal processes align with government regulations and audit requirements. This position requires strong analytical skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced professional services environment. You will contribute to the integrity and quality of our audit services, helping government bodies maintain transparency and accountability.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist audit teams in gathering, analyzing, and organizing financial and non-financial data relevant to government audits.
- Perform preliminary reviews of internal controls and compliance documentation against established government regulations and standards.
- Support the preparation of audit workpapers, schedules, and reports, ensuring accuracy and adherence to professional standards.
- Liaise with client personnel to request information and clarify documentation, under the guidance of senior team members.
- Conduct research on specific government policies, acts, and regulations to support audit findings and recommendations.
- Participate in client meetings and interviews, taking notes and assisting with information collection.
- Contribute to the identification of potential compliance gaps and recommend corrective actions to improve internal controls.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and data security in handling sensitive government and client information.
- Assist with ad-hoc administrative tasks related to audit engagements as required.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in an accounting, finance, or audit support role.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a high degree of accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Proven organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Demonstrated commitment to professional ethics and integrity.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- Experience working within a professional services firm or public sector environment.
- Familiarity with Australian government regulations and public sector accounting standards (e.g., AASB, PGPA Act).
- Working knowledge of audit software and database systems.
