Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and reliable Government Mailroom Operative to join our team in Chesapeake, VA. This active role is crucial for ensuring the efficient and secure handling of critical government correspondence and packages. As a Mailroom Operative, you will be responsible for a wide range of tasks from sorting and distributing mail to operating specialized mailroom equipment and maintaining accurate records. This position offers a dynamic environment where attention to detail, physical stamina, and a commitment to security protocols are paramount. Full training will be provided to ensure you are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in this essential role.
Key Responsibilities
- Sort, process, and distribute incoming and outgoing mail, packages, and documents for government clients.
- Operate mailroom equipment including postage meters, scanners, and mail sorting machines.
- Maintain accurate logs and records of mail and package movements, ensuring chain of custody.
- Adhere strictly to all security protocols and confidentiality guidelines for handling sensitive government materials.
- Perform routine checks and maintenance on mailroom equipment.
- Prepare packages for shipment, including proper labeling and documentation.
- Assist with inventory management of mailroom supplies.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal clients regarding mail and delivery inquiries.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient mailroom environment.
Required Skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance (if required for client site access).
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
