Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Greenhouse Climate Controller to join our team in Cork. This critical role involves managing and optimizing the environmental conditions within our advanced greenhouses to ensure optimal plant growth, yield, and quality. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of horticultural science, climate control systems, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. You will be instrumental in implementing best practices for irrigation, fertilization, pest management, and disease prevention, working closely with our cultivation specialists.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and adjust greenhouse climate control systems (temperature, humidity, CO2 levels, light intensity) using specialized software and hardware.
- Analyze environmental data and plant physiological responses to make informed decisions regarding climate adjustments.
- Implement and oversee irrigation and fertigation schedules, ensuring precise nutrient delivery.
- Conduct regular inspections of plants for pests, diseases, and nutritional deficiencies, implementing preventative and corrective measures.
- Maintain and calibrate climate control sensors and equipment.
- Collaborate with growers and farm managers to develop and refine cultivation strategies.
- Keep detailed records of environmental conditions, plant health, and production data.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to climate control systems and greenhouse infrastructure.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years of experience in greenhouse climate control or a related horticultural role.
- Proficiency with computerized greenhouse climate control systems (e.g., Priva, Argus, Hoogendoorn).
- Strong understanding of plant physiology, horticulture, and crop requirements.
- Knowledge of irrigation and fertigation principles.
- Ability to identify common greenhouse pests and diseases and implement appropriate control measures.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and strong record-keeping abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Horticulture, Agricultural Science, or a related field.
- Experience with IPM (Integrated Pest Management) strategies.
- Certification in pesticide application.
- Forklift operation certification.
