Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Hospitalist Doctor to join our dynamic team within the Central Coast Local Health District. This ward-based role offers the unique opportunity to work across various medical wards, providing comprehensive care to inpatients. The successful candidate will be instrumental in managing acute medical conditions, coordinating patient care plans, and ensuring seamless transitions of care. This position comes with a flexible roster, allowing for a healthy work-life balance while still delivering exceptional medical services.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive medical care to ward-based inpatients, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.
- Manage acute and chronic medical conditions, escalating complex cases as necessary.
- Develop and implement individualized patient care plans in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
- Conduct daily ward rounds, review patient progress, and adjust treatments accordingly.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient records, including progress notes and discharge summaries.
- Participate in medical emergencies and rapid response calls.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and caregivers regarding treatment plans and prognosis.
- Mentor junior medical staff and participate in continuous professional development activities.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the hospital.
Required Skills
- Full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Medical Practitioner.
- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent specialist qualification in General Medicine.
- Proven experience in ward-based hospital medicine, managing a diverse range of acute medical conditions.
- Excellent clinical decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated commitment to patient safety and quality care.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within a regional or rural healthcare setting.
- Participation in clinical audits or research projects.
- Postgraduate qualifications in medical education or leadership.
- Advanced life support certification (e.g., ALS2).
