Job Description

Global Justice Alliance is seeking a passionate and driven Human Rights Advocacy Intern to join our team in Vaughan, Ontario. This entry-level internship offers an unparalleled opportunity to gain hands-on experience in human rights advocacy, research, and campaign development within a renowned global non-profit. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced advocates, contributing to impactful projects that address critical human rights issues. This role is ideal for individuals eager to learn, contribute meaningfully to social change, and build a foundational understanding of international human rights work. Full training and mentorship will be provided, making this an excellent stepping stone for a career in the non-profit sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in conducting research on various human rights issues and violations globally and locally.
  • Support the development and implementation of advocacy campaigns, including drafting communications and outreach materials.
  • Help organize and coordinate advocacy events, meetings, and public awareness initiatives.
  • Monitor human rights news and developments, preparing summaries and reports for the team.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to strategic discussions on advocacy priorities.
  • Assist with data entry, database management, and administrative tasks as needed.
  • Support the creation of educational resources and advocacy tools for internal and external stakeholders.

Required Skills

  • Strong passion for human rights and social justice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct basic research and synthesize information effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proactive attitude and eagerness to learn.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant academic program (e.g., Political Science, International Relations, Law, Social Justice, Human Rights).
  • Familiarity with international human rights frameworks and mechanisms.
  • Experience with social media or digital advocacy platforms.
  • Fluency in additional languages is an asset.
