Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Infection Control Nurse to join our highly skilled team. This vital role involves actively working to prevent and control healthcare-associated infections across our hospital sites. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring infection control policies and practices, providing expert advice, and educating staff to ensure the highest standards of patient safety and public health. This position requires a proactive individual with excellent clinical judgment and communication skills, committed to upholding best practices in infection prevention.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct surveillance for healthcare-associated infections and analyze data to identify trends.
  • Develop, review, and implement infection prevention and control policies and guidelines in line with national standards.
  • Provide expert advice and support to clinical staff, patients, and visitors on infection control practices.
  • Deliver training and education programs to all levels of staff regarding infection prevention and control.
  • Participate in outbreak investigations and manage control measures effectively.
  • Conduct audits of infection control practices and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to promote a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to infection control activities.

Required Skills

  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
  • Minimum of 3 years post-registration nursing experience, with at least 1 year in an acute hospital setting.
  • Sound knowledge of infection prevention and control principles and practices.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in IT applications relevant to data collection and reporting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-graduate qualification in Infection Prevention and Control (e.g., Diploma, Degree).
  • Experience in delivering educational sessions to adult learners.
  • Experience in conducting audits and implementing quality improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of relevant national and local healthcare legislation and guidelines.
