Job Description

We are seeking a highly enthusiastic and detail-oriented Literary Agency Intern to join our team in Victoria. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the publishing industry, specifically within a literary agency setting. The primary focus of this role will be manuscript review and evaluation, providing a critical first look at potential new authors and projects. This is an entry-level position perfect for individuals passionate about books, eager to learn, and looking to kickstart a career in publishing. Full training will be provided to help you understand the submission process, evaluation criteria, and the broader literary landscape.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read and evaluate unsolicited manuscript submissions across various genres.
  • Write concise and insightful reader reports, summarizing plot, character, and marketability.
  • Conduct preliminary research on authors, comparable titles, and market trends.
  • Assist agents with administrative tasks related to submission management.
  • Participate in agency meetings and discussions to gain a deeper understanding of the publishing process.
  • Provide constructive feedback on query letters and synopses.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional reading comprehension and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong written communication abilities, with an eye for detail and clarity.
  • Genuine passion for books and a broad knowledge of literary genres.

  • Experience using manuscript submission software (e.g., Submittable).
