Job Description
Are you passionate about animal welfare and looking to gain practical experience in livestock management? Western Sydney University is offering an exciting Internship opportunity for a Livestock Intern with an Animal Management Focus. This entry-level role is designed for enthusiastic individuals eager to learn about the daily care, health, and welfare of various livestock species within a research and educational environment. You will work closely with experienced animal technicians and researchers, receiving comprehensive training in all aspects of responsible animal management. This is a unique chance to develop foundational skills and contribute to critical research in animal science.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with daily feeding, watering, and general care of livestock (e.g., sheep, cattle, poultry).
- Learn and practice basic animal handling techniques under supervision.
- Monitor animal health and report any signs of illness or unusual behavior to senior staff.
- Assist with maintaining clean and hygienic animal enclosures and facilities.
- Support data collection related to animal behavior, growth, and health records.
- Participate in routine farm tasks and general site maintenance as required.
- Adhere strictly to animal welfare guidelines, biosecurity protocols, and safety procedures.
- Engage actively in learning opportunities and ask questions to deepen understanding.

- Basic understanding of animal behavior and welfare principles.
- First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
