Job Description
Accolade Wines is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Chemical Engineering Intern to join our Quality Control and Laboratory team in Berri, South Australia. This internship provides an invaluable opportunity for a budding chemical engineer to gain practical, hands-on experience in a dynamic manufacturing environment. You will support our senior engineers and laboratory technicians in ensuring the highest quality standards for our products, contributing to critical testing, data analysis, and process improvement initiatives. This role is designed for someone eager to learn, apply theoretical knowledge, and develop foundational skills in a real-world setting, with significant mentorship provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in routine quality control testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products using established methodologies.
- Operate and maintain various laboratory equipment, including spectrophotometers, titrators, and pH meters, under supervision.
- Accurately collect, record, and analyze data, contributing to comprehensive reports on product quality and process performance.
- Support chemical engineers in monitoring production processes, identifying potential deviations, and assisting in optimization projects.
- Adhere strictly to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), safety protocols, and company quality management systems.
- Participate in troubleshooting and problem-solving activities related to product quality and process efficiency.
- Prepare basic summaries and presentations of experimental findings or project progress for team review.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory workspace.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor's degree program in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a closely related scientific discipline.
- Basic theoretical understanding of chemical principles, mass balance, and fundamental laboratory techniques.
- Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for data handling and analysis.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous practical experience in a laboratory setting (e.g., university lab work, prior internships, or volunteer experience).
- Familiarity with Quality Management Systems (e.g., ISO 9001, HACCP) or similar industry standards.
- A genuine interest in the food & beverage or manufacturing industry.
- Basic knowledge of statistical analysis tools or software.
