Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and organized Mailroom Officer to join our team, providing essential support to a federal department. This role is crucial for the efficient flow of information and materials within the department, ensuring timely and secure handling of all incoming and outgoing mail, parcels, and internal documents. The successful candidate will be a vital part of our administrative support, contributing to the smooth operation of daily departmental activities. This is an on-site position requiring meticulous attention to detail and adherence to Australian Public Service (APS) guidelines and security protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Sort and distribute incoming mail, packages, and internal correspondence to appropriate departments and individuals.
- Process outgoing mail, including franking, packaging, and arranging courier services.
- Maintain accurate records of all incoming and outgoing mail and deliveries.
- Operate mailroom equipment such as franking machines, scanners, and trolleys.
- Manage and order mailroom supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels.
- Assist with the secure handling and archiving of sensitive documents.
- Provide logistical support for internal office moves or large-scale document transfers.
- Adhere strictly to departmental security procedures and APS compliance standards.
- Liaise with external couriers and postal services.
- Perform general administrative tasks as required to support departmental operations.
Required Skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computer proficiency, including email and data entry.
- Physical ability to lift and move mail bins and packages (up to 15kg).

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a mailroom, administrative, or logistics support role.
- Knowledge of Australian Public Service (APS) values and working environment.
- Current Australian Driver's License.
- Experience with mailroom equipment (e.g., franking machines).
