Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Maintenance Fitter to join our dynamic team at our Ipswich manufacturing plant. This role is crucial to ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our production machinery through proactive maintenance and rapid response to breakdowns. As a Maintenance Fitter, you will be integral to maintaining the reliability and uptime of our plant, working across various shifts to support our continuous manufacturing processes. You will perform mechanical, and some basic electrical, maintenance on a wide range of industrial equipment, including CNC machines, presses, conveyors, and automated assembly lines. A strong commitment to health and safety, problem-solving abilities, and a collaborative spirit are essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on all plant machinery and equipment to schedule.
  • Diagnose and rectify mechanical faults and breakdowns promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Carry out reactive maintenance tasks efficiently and effectively.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, manuals, and schematics.
  • Assist in the installation and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and logs.
  • Work collaboratively with production teams to optimize machinery performance.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives within the maintenance department.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Maintenance Fitter in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Proficiency in hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent understanding of health and safety procedures in an industrial setting.
  • Ability to work various shifts, including nights and weekends as required by the plant's operational schedule.
  • Basic electrical knowledge (e.g., fault finding on control circuits, motor testing).

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent relevant qualification.
  • Experience with PLC-controlled machinery.
  • Forklift license.
  • Experience with welding and fabrication.
