Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and physically capable Municipal Parks Maintenance Worker to join our team. This is an essential outdoor role focused on the upkeep, beautification, and safety of Reno’s diverse park system. You will perform a variety of tasks crucial to maintaining our green spaces, athletic fields, and public amenities. This position offers consistent full-time work with weekly pay, providing a stable opportunity for individuals who enjoy working outdoors and contributing directly to their community. Full training will be provided for all necessary equipment and safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, weeding, and edging of park lawns and landscapes.
- Plant, cultivate, prune, and maintain trees, shrubs, flowers, and other plant material.
- Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, and small utility vehicles.
- Clean and maintain park facilities, restrooms, picnic areas, and playgrounds, ensuring cleanliness and safety standards.
- Collect and dispose of trash and debris throughout park grounds.
- Assist with the setup and teardown for special events held in parks.
- Perform minor repairs to park infrastructure such as benches, fences, and irrigation systems.
- Monitor parks for safety hazards and report issues to supervisors.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and departmental policies.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform strenuous physical work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Basic understanding of landscape maintenance techniques or willingness to learn quickly.
- Ability to operate small hand tools and learn to operate power equipment.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Valid Nevada Driver's License or ability to obtain one within a specified timeframe (for operating department vehicles).
- High school diploma or GED.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in landscape maintenance, groundskeeping, or a related outdoor field.
- Familiarity with common park maintenance equipment.
- Knowledge of basic plant care and irrigation systems.
- Experience working for a municipal or public service entity.
