Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Music Director / Band Teacher to join our vibrant arts department. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and leading engaging music programs, primarily focusing on instrumental instruction for various grade levels. This role requires a passion for music education, strong leadership skills, and the ability to inspire students of all abilities to achieve musical excellence. The ideal candidate will foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where students can explore their creativity, develop their musical talents, and build confidence through performance. Experience with diverse musical styles and instruments, along with a commitment to student well-being, is highly valued. CoS (Certificate of Sponsorship) is available for eligible international candidates.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive and engaging music curriculum for various grade levels.
- Direct and instruct school bands, including concert bands, jazz bands, and other instrumental ensembles.
- Organize and prepare students for performances, concerts, festivals, and competitions.
- Teach fundamental music theory, history, and appreciation.
- Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback.
- Maintain and manage musical instruments, equipment, and the music department inventory.
- Collaborate with other faculty members to integrate music into the broader school curriculum and events.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and disciplined learning environment.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress and departmental activities.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field
- Valid Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certification or eligibility for certification
- Demonstrated proficiency in directing instrumental ensembles
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of music, including various instruments and genres
- Excellent classroom management and pedagogical skills
- Ability to inspire and motivate students of diverse backgrounds and skill levels
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Music Education or a related field
- Experience teaching music in an elementary or secondary school setting
- Proficiency in multiple musical instruments
- Experience with music technology and software
- Leadership experience in extracurricular music programs
- Knowledge of current trends in music education
