Job Description

We are seeking an inspiring and dedicated Music Director / Band Teacher to join our thriving arts department in Bristol. This is an exceptional opportunity for a passionate educator to lead and develop our school’s musical program, focusing on instrumental and ensemble performance. The successful candidate will foster a love of music among students, from beginners to advanced players, and prepare them for various performances and examinations. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an engaging and comprehensive music curriculum for various age groups.
  • Direct and manage school bands, orchestras, choirs, and other musical ensembles.
  • Teach instrumental lessons across a range of instruments, adapting to student needs and skill levels.
  • Organize and oversee school concerts, productions, and community performances.
  • Nurture student talent, encouraging participation and excellence in musical endeavors.
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Maintain and manage musical instruments and equipment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to integrate music across the curriculum and school life.
  • Attend departmental meetings and contribute to the broader school community.

Required Skills

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent international teaching qualification.
  • A degree in Music, Music Education, or a related field.
  • Demonstrable proficiency in conducting and leading musical ensembles.
  • Expertise in at least one orchestral or band instrument, with working knowledge of others.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to engage with students, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students of all abilities and backgrounds.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Music or Education.
  • Experience teaching a diverse range of musical genres and styles.
  • Familiarity with UK music curriculum frameworks (e.g., National Curriculum, GCSE, A-Level Music).
  • Experience with music technology and digital music production.
  • Ability to teach a second instrument or vocal performance.
