Job Description
Are you a passionate storyteller with a love for video games? Xbox Game Studios is seeking a highly motivated and creative Narrative Design & Game Writing Intern to join our dynamic team in Tempe, AZ. This is an exceptional opportunity for an aspiring writer to gain hands-on experience in the world of interactive narrative, working alongside industry veterans on exciting new projects. You will contribute to the development of compelling lore, characters, and dialogue that resonate with players, all while learning the intricacies of game development pipelines. No prior professional experience in game development is required; we are looking for raw talent, a strong desire to learn, and an eagerness to contribute to the future of gaming.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior narrative designers and writers in brainstorming and developing game lore, character backstories, and engaging dialogue.
- Contribute to the creation and iteration of story arcs, quests, and in-game events.
- Conduct research to support world-building and ensure narrative consistency across projects.
- Provide constructive feedback on ongoing narrative content and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including design, art, and engineering.
- Learn and apply best practices in game writing, narrative design, and interactive storytelling techniques.
- Participate actively in team meetings, critiques, and workshops to enhance understanding of the game development process.
- Help maintain narrative documentation and content databases.

- A portfolio showcasing creative writing samples, short stories, scripts, or personal game projects (student work is welcome).
- Basic familiarity with game development concepts or interactive storytelling tools (e.g., Twine, visual novel engines).
- A proactive attitude and a desire to contribute meaningfully to game projects.
