Job Description
Join Parks Victoria as a National Park Guide focusing on Conservation & Education in the vibrant Bendigo region. This crucial role involves leading guided tours and educational programs for diverse visitor groups, from school children to adults, fostering a connection with Victoria’s unique natural and cultural heritage. You will interpret the natural environment, highlight conservation efforts, and promote responsible recreation, ensuring visitors have a safe, enriching, and memorable experience while deepening their understanding of the importance of conservation.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging interpretive programs and guided walks for various visitor demographics.
- Educate visitors on the ecological significance, geology, flora, and fauna of the national parks within the Bendigo region.
- Explain current conservation initiatives and the challenges facing Victoria's natural environment.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during tours and activities, including basic first aid if required.
- Promote minimal impact practices and responsible park use among visitors.
- Assist with minor park maintenance or reporting issues as observed during tours.
- Gather visitor feedback and contribute to program evaluation and development.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of park information, safety protocols, and interpretive techniques.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated passion for nature, conservation, and outdoor education.
- Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a friendly, approachable demeanor.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in an outdoor environment.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Valid Australian Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in environmental science, ecology, tourism, education, or a related field.
- Experience in guiding, teaching, or public speaking.
- Knowledge of local Indigenous cultural heritage and interpretation practices.
- Proficiency in additional languages.
