Job Description

Telus Communications Inc. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Network Security Operations (SOC) Intern to join our dedicated team in Vernon, British Columbia. Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor security alerts and events from various security systems including SIEM, IDS/IPS, and firewalls.
  • Perform initial analysis and triage of security incidents, identifying false positives and escalating genuine threats.
  • Document security incidents, investigations, and remediation steps accurately.
  • Assist in the development and refinement of security playbooks and procedures.
  • Participate in post-incident reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support senior SOC analysts in various security operations tasks as needed.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of security tools and systems.
  • Maintain awareness of current and emerging cyber threats and vulnerabilities.

Required Skills

  • Foundational understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, VPN).
  • Basic knowledge of operating systems (Windows, Linux).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies and threats.
  • Ability to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree or diploma in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., MITRE ATT&CK, NIST).
  • Basic understanding of scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell).
  • Knowledge of common attack vectors and mitigation strategies.
  • Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Network+, or CySA+.
